Hi All,
I'm hoping to have £150 - £200 soon to enable me to purchase a decent combo amp.
I am currently using a Stagg 40w Bass Amp, it is okay so long as you keep the volume down to less than half way!
I am currently drooling over the Ashdown 180 Evo II I have seen in my local music shop (about £190 IIRC).
What are your thoughts on this amp?
Can you suggest something in the price range?
Thank you
Bye for now,

Hi!
I'm not a huge expert on bass amps but I do have a bit of advice for you! -Firstly, you can't really go wrong with Ashdown as the sound quality is good although I have seen at least five Ashdowns turn up to gigs and suddenly decided not to work so I'd research that a bit more to see if it's an inherent problem with the model you want. It may be a random fluke but I've engineered many gigs in my time and have never seen a similarly reoccurring problem in any other makes.
-Secondly, the new Trace Elliot Combos have a VERY harsh compressor threshold so unless you like your bass to sound like an 80s funk bass sample, I wouldn't recommend it- although if you don't use the compressor then I'm sure the amp is fine.
-Ampeg seem to be the professional's choice but I'd imagine they're aren't many in your price range.
-Behringer, although they are low price, they are extremely good value so I would urge you to have a look at some.
I would definitely try out as many as you can, perhaps ring around your bass playing friends and see if they'll let you try theirs out!
That's all for now although -hopefully I haven't confused you further!
